0:00 my name is Jeff I’m here on behalf of Mental Health Resources today we have ingred Marquez a certified meditation
0:07 instructor thank you thank you so much yeah so ingred if you could tell us a
0:12 little bit about yourself and why you got into um you know meditation and all
0:18 your holistic methods oh first of all thank you so much you know I really
0:25 appreciate being here and um discussing meditation especially this month you
0:31 know during mental health I have been meditating for over 20 years um actually
0:38 when I first started meditating I really didn’t know what I was doing like you know what am I doing but
0:45 um through the course of the years I there was a time in my life where I was
0:52 truly struggling really I tried everything from you know
0:57 prayer to to therapy it was just such a hard time in my life
1:03 my my son was really struggling with addiction and first of all we don’t get
1:11 a manual when we’re parents to become parents much less going through this
1:18 journey of addiction and mental health and I found
1:24 myself myself in the addiction in in
1:29 just the whole nightmare of not knowing how to help him or even help myself with
1:36 really coming to terms right so at that point I realized that it was only the
1:43 meditation that was giving me a little bit of relief you know from the tears
1:49 from the stress from the anxiety so I really immersed myself in the studies um
1:56 as he was going in and out of different rehab centers I realized that they
2:03 weren’t giving the clients the tools that they needed to navigate during
2:10 their stressful times or when they went back out into society so as I continued on you know my
2:20 journey and I realized how much it helped me and um I wanted to share it
2:27 with others and that’s really what when I found my passion I found what my
2:34 purpose was in this life so from something so horrific for me where I saw
2:41 no light I found it through meditation and I also found my purpose you know
2:48 with um sometimes I get emotional when I speak of it but it was truly my Saving
2:54 Grace no one teaches us how to be still how to be be silent how to you know
3:01 journey within and and find the answers and the love that we have inside for us
3:09 to help others and to be of service we first have to love and help
3:16 ourselves so that was my journey and now this is what I do and this is what I
3:22 love and every day for me it is not work for me it is
3:30 just what I do you know it is my passion to be able if I can help one person then
3:36 I’ve done my job right and I know that you did um you know training and all of
3:43 that can you talk a little bit more about your training yes of course uh
3:48 when I first started de diving into meditation you know I I was looking all
3:54 different types because there are many many different types of meditation which
3:59 is wonderful I started my education through uh the Chopra Center with Dr
4:07 Deepak CH Chopra and Roger Gabriel and they actually uh prior to starting the
4:15 Chopra Center this was 25 years ago worked with Transcendental Meditation so
4:21 the root of my um of the work that I do is rooted in the viic wisdom of India so
4:29 um I have that Foundation which is rooted in Mantra based meditations of
4:36 the journey within but I’ve also studied with other doctors other teachers so I
4:43 really try to not only use the spiritual you know road map but also the
4:50 science behind it because I really feel that if we understand the wise and the
4:58 how that it is so much easier to really you know understand why we need to do
5:05 this um and also for my students when I’m teaching you know it’s not just okay
5:11 do this and you’re going to be better but this is how it can help you these are the methods this is how the brain
5:18 works you know it’s just so I always say ask why ask ask the how
5:27 and really you know find seek and find what resonates with you yeah and that
5:34 helps too because some people are more spiritual some people need are more intellectual exactly and now this speaks
5:42 to both of them exactly and there and there’s so many different beautiful
5:47 forms of meditation you know we have the the ancient practice where we become
5:53 still where we repeat mantras and Mantra is basically just the repetition
6:00 of a sacred sound or word right but there are guided meditations there are
6:06 walking meditations there’s dance meditation I myself teach um meditation
6:12 in motion uh roomie the great a poet and
6:18 philosopher wrote there is no better dance partner than your own spirit so
6:26 going within and connecting so I you know there’s art there there’s just so
6:33 much for one to really be able to go within a lot of different techniques so
6:40 say I was I guess one of your students how uh how would you start with
6:46 everything first of all I I would really ask and try to
6:51 see what you have from your background if you’ve done any meditation depending
6:57 on what state you’re in right cuz I really try to to Really connect with my
7:03 student the first and most important tool that I teach this is for
7:10 anyone you know whether just every day whether you’re in recovery whether
7:16 you’re having um you know struggling or not it’s how to breathe that is the most
7:25 important and the most powerful tool that we have is to really know how to
7:30 breathe and how to become centered and grounded when when we hold our breath
7:37 you know the oxygen is not going through our system so the Mind cannot think
7:42 clearly so when we do Breathe It grounds us and it only takes 17 seconds you know
7:50 the same as with a negative thought when we have a negative thought within 17
7:55 seconds you’re going to have a negative emotion and then it’s going to trigger the body into believing that you are
8:03 processing the same trauma or the same negative thought so the breathing is the
8:08 very very first thing that I teach yeah so I’ve done I’ve done a good amount of
8:15 different breathing techniques I think the ones that I really stuck with are I
8:21 like the the 478 mhm breathing um and then like the Wim Hof
8:28 you know Wim Hof so it’s like you you basically hyperventilate for 30 seconds and then you exhale for a minute and
8:36 then you hold your breath for 15 seconds and then you do another hyper
8:42 hyperventilating and then the second time you do it you you exhale for a
8:48 minute and 30 seconds MH um that one’s definitely a little bit more intense for
8:53 me it’s it’s very intense and and when you’re first you know starting on the
8:59 this journey I would not recommend doing that you know because you really pranama
9:07 which is breath work you know that is that is breath work it has to be
9:12 something very gentle and someone that really knows what they’re doing is that
9:17 what that is is breath work yes absolutely abely 478 I’ll do like I I do
9:22 that like to get me into like before I just start like meditating like if it’s like the morning I’ll just like do that
9:29 a couple times and then I’m just kind of in a state where I can just like breathe and for for me for example when I’m
9:37 teaching a new student it is all very gentle it could be just very very gentle
9:44 because when when you’re when you don’t know what you’re doing right you’ve never made like for instance you have so
9:51 and you’ve worked with teachers so that is really good but for so I always say and and also you
10:00 know the gurus say it h you have to be very careful I’m very because you never
10:07 know what the student if the student has asthma problems if you know all the
10:12 medical so you want to go very easily very very gentle and with me the
10:18 starting of just breathing in through the nose very gently without any deep
10:24 inhales and then exhaling and if you close your eyes and just notice you
10:30 become the witness and you notice the coolness of the breath as you inhale so
10:37 you’re receiving this fresh oxygen the breath of life and then as you exhale
10:43 you can actually feel the warmth so right there your focus is on your breath
10:49 and it is so gentle that it comes within 17 seconds you’re back to a normalized
10:58 which is you you know normalizing the heart rate your blood pressure and your mind yes the mind is very harsh to calm
11:06 down and and the this is what the breath will do and I and I teach different
11:11 techniques you know stomach breathing but everything is gentle in the beginning that would be for example me
11:17 telling a student okay we’re going to sit down and meditate don’t think
11:23 that’s what’s going to happen there you know the mind is going to go you’re going to go panic and you’re going to be
11:29 think of everything or if I say to you just you know breathe gently the student
11:35 doesn’t know yet but if we put the focus on the breath then that slows down the
11:42 chatter and you’re actually being a witness and then I start I teach how to
11:48 move the breath because we’re all energetic beings right and the reason
11:55 that our stress levels are so high the cortisol the release of the stress
12:00 hormones so when we become in tuned with our bodies with the physical body and we
12:07 move the energies throughout our being that brings everything down you know our
12:14 muscles when we’re stressed out do this right yeah so if as you breathe into it
12:20 it releases the pressure so that’s how I begin the
12:26 teachings of the breath what what effects have you noticed it having on
12:31 people’s mental health just cuz you know you know when so when the the practice
12:38 of meditation is used I have seen a tremendous growth with my students for
12:46 for them to realize that they can actually calm their own being with the
12:53 breath you know where they their nights when they can’t fall asleep and using
13:00 the breath they’re able to go to a Commerce State it’s just been amazing
13:07 and and I think that’s what is so necessary as we continue to learn about
13:15 mental health is really giving the tools to teach the student the client you know
13:21 how they can self- regulate I teach my students not to respond immediately in
13:29 situations to take a breath step back ground themselves there was the the what
13:37 we consider like the father of yoga patan jali he was a sage um you know
13:44 hundreds of years ago that really the the book
13:50 where all yogis all yoga teachers meditation teachers read this book he
13:56 writes that taking care I’m paraph raising here that each one of us it is
14:03 necessary to rest to eat to take care of ourselves you know so that we can go out
14:10 into the world and be of service of others with a clear mind and an open
14:15 heart and using the breath and being able to ground ourselves is how we can
14:21 do that and teaching others you know especially and tapping is another
14:27 beautiful way yes I tapping you know just gently tapping to the different
14:34 points in the body you know we have what we call uh chakras in atic medicine
14:40 they’re energy centers in Chinese medicine it’s acupuncture uh so in tapping we’re touch
14:48 you know placing our thumbs our fingers and tapping that area moving the energy
14:55 right and I think that that’s it really aligns with EMDR as well absolutely I
15:02 just had a session today and I was telling my client I’m like you really need to incorporate the holistic methods
15:10 of yoga of trauma releasing exercises of you know eating healthy
15:16 getting enough rest meditation like all of this stuff because if you just do
15:22 EMDR it’s not as effective as doing all of it it it’s like it you put it all
15:29 together right it is um I love EMDR you know when I see that my students and
15:35 then I come in right afterwards and just help them remember
15:42 what they need to do and that’s with a clear mind become more settled and then
15:48 they can progress in in everything else but it’s just really calming them you
15:55 know because the body keeps the score I mean that’s an amazing book but it’s very true we store our trauma in our
16:01 bodies we do we do and but we can we can change that I you know I’ve really
16:08 studied um with Dr Joe dispenser which I love I love you know
16:15 um there was a podcast with he and J Shetty that you know it’s really yeah
16:22 both of them right and Jay is like so young and vibrant and Dr dispenser just
16:28 has so so much of this knowledge and what I love is that you can rewire your
16:34 brain you really can as he says you know when we have a negative thought we have
16:41 it triggers a negative emotion that negative emotion triggers the body to
16:47 believe that you are in that moment of trauma or anxiety whatever it may be so
16:54 the body doesn’t know the difference and the best way that I can explain this is
17:00 when you see an amazing actor and you see their work and you you you just look
17:07 at them and go how can they do that well they have me they’re they’re in the zone
17:13 what athletes call The Zone actors call a Zone when they memorize their lines
17:19 and the emotion is triggered the body does not know that they’re an
17:25 actor true they believe the lines to be true and they the body you’ll see a lot
17:32 of actors after doing a very difficult performance they will actually get sick
17:38 yes they will actually get sick so the body doesn’t know so everything that you
17:43 say and think especially about yourselves the body believes it to be
17:49 true were saying about Heath Ledger exactly when he did Batman he went over
17:54 the edge he went over the edge he the he went to the zone and he just never came
18:00 back never came back so it’s very important to know you know how we speak
18:05 to ourselves you know not to go back to really teach everyone I mean I I think
18:12 it’s something that should be taught from CH you know from way way young to
18:19 to Really incorporate this to teach our children you know how to breathe I know
18:24 as a child myself um when I was afraid I’d hold my breath
18:29 that would make matters worse right you’re pressing at an early age from an
18:35 early age so it is you know I think here in the west you know really we we need
18:41 to get to that point where we are actually educating parents to educate
18:47 their children you know as they grow so that we do not you know the the
18:53 situation this world right now that we’re living in we’re all in a fight flight of free mode especially since the
19:00 pandemic so this is for everyone I believe that um these practices should
19:09 be started you know at a young age and at whatever age to help especially in
19:15 the US because it’s other countries they even have times where they go home to
19:21 nap and here that would be yeah yes yes I me I’m all for I would love that but
19:28 it’s you know unheard of in the United States it’s really it’s really sad
19:33 dinner time what Happ you know in like let’s say the three of us you know we
19:39 we’re from different cultures and I know in my culture that you know dinner time
19:46 was to talk to each other to tell say about our days you know now everyone is
19:51 attached to a phone yeah if you go to a restaurant you will see a table filled
19:57 you know and everyone’s on their phone I don’t understand that it’s like why even go out anymore the point what’s the
20:04 point of that you know of not um so I think here especially you know of
20:13 really the family unit and F when I say family you know I’m not speaking just
20:20 blood family you know friends you know sitting and enjoying each other speaking
20:25 to each other really listening that that in itself is an art form that in itself
20:32 is feeding the soul you know there’s so many ways to feed the soul you know just
20:39 in nature and taking the time but it’s really a journey
20:44 of really knowing who you are and we only can do that through silence going
20:51 within and that’s what people run from and that’s that’s where they struggle in their mental health too is like they
20:58 want to do everything else besides look within um where that’s why you know I’ve
21:05 worked with you for years and it always complement because you’re teaching them
21:10 how to look within themselves so that they can do the hard work in therapy exactly exactly so that they can be you
21:17 know open to therapy and open to the suggestions you know when when you see
21:23 someone that is struggling you both know that you know they they go they they
21:28 close down but they’re also closing their heart right you know their their
21:34 inner child their traumas and so when we get them to open up and really see how
21:42 beautiful they are and how smart they are and and what a beautiful life that
21:48 they have waiting for them it’s it’s just magnificent to see but it all we
21:56 have to work together right that’s the hard part it’s you know and getting them
22:02 on getting everyone and I and I just think that right now you know especially
22:09 in our world right now it’s the mental health
22:15 situation is dangerous it is I it’s just very dangerous and we we all have to do
22:22 our part and helping each other you know however we can well and I think yeah the
22:28 fact that they’re not connecting with other people that is the hardest part and like like you said if they’re not
22:36 opening their heart to it they’re not going to connect and they’re not going to feel better um yeah so what would you
22:43 do with like a resistant client or someone who’s just resistant to meditation in general it’s most people
22:51 are you know when they first come in um I work at you know quite a few different
22:59 facilities and companies and when they come in you you
23:04 I can I know like that you know this one it’s going to take a moment it’s
23:11 not it is said that when the student is ready the teacher will appear right so I
23:18 have found with clients that are struggling with mental health when they
23:25 see the difference with their ears when they hear my voice I never Force
23:33 anything but if I can show give them a little just a little bit of relief just
23:38 for that moment and as they come to class it’s you know you will see one
23:44 that is resisting but as they continue coming
23:50 hearing seeing they open up I’ve had students that I can’t meditate I don’t
23:56 want to meditate I don’t know why I’m here and I say okay that that’s fine just you know take your time relax if
24:03 you want to fall asleep fall asleep but what they don’t know is that their subconscious is hearing me their body is
24:09 hearing me and then when they wake up they’re refreshed and they come back and
24:14 they come back and some of these students are now one of some of my best
24:20 students that I consider because they see that it works they see that it they works you know or they’ll call what how
24:27 do I do the breath again you know I also teach them different mudas mudras are
24:32 hand gestures that move the energy um how to breathe how to just there’s so
24:38 many diff you know depending on the student I will know you know okay this
24:44 person needs this type of meditation movement meditation and they see the
24:49 difference or they’ll hear me give you know teaching and then I’ll notice
24:55 little by little they start coming you know they stand by the door okay they come
25:00 in what do you think about um it’s a little off topic but exercise as a form
25:05 of meditation cuz I always like I’ll go through times in my life where I’ll
25:10 meditate more or I’ll exercise more because you know there’s only so many hours in the day
25:16 um but what do you think I know because I’ve heard people say all sorts of different things like smoking is a form
25:22 of meditation exercise can be a form of meditation the smoking I don’t think is
25:28 a form of meditation thank you but the ex exercise is so important you know
25:34 there because with it’s it’s good for your physical body your mental health
25:41 you’re also moving energy yeah you’re moving energy I I think it is very
25:47 important we have to keep you know you have yoga you have taii which I love
25:53 taii um just all the running wa walking they’re all forms of meditation we are
26:01 meditation is keeping the mind focused really you know so when we are doing
26:07 exercise I’m not a gym rat you know but I love walking I love um doing yoga I
26:14 love doing ta Chi but it is ex you’re keeping focused it’s like playing an
26:20 instrument when you’re playing an instrument all your focus is going there
26:26 so the chatter stops when you’re doing exercise are you thinking about anything else no so there you have
26:35 relief yeah and then what do you think about the difference between prayer and
26:40 meditation ah I love that question it is one of my teachers um
26:47 years ago said to me when you pray you speak to God or the universe or
26:55 Source right when you meditate God speaks to you when you’re praying you’re talking
27:03 you’re asking you’re pleading you’re begging you’re on your knees you’re on
27:09 the floor there it’s please please please please there’s no way you can
27:14 hear the answer that you’re looking for if you’re talking right but when you
27:20 meditate and you’re quiet then God can speak to you in many different forms
27:27 through inspiration right giving you the answers that you need your intuition opens we
27:35 always say the third eye chakra is really where intuition it’s that gut feeling that you get that inner wisdom
27:43 all the answers are within us they they truly are and that comes from Source
27:49 from your higher self so when you become quiet then you can hear so I love both
27:57 you know you you pray you give thanks gratitude
28:02 is if there is one thing that I say that you can pray for is in gratitude just
28:10 thank you that that with that alone right I know uh one like big question I
28:18 had early in my meditation Journey
28:24 um was like how it like goes with Christianity cuz I mean I know like that
28:32 it’s not necessarily in Christianity like they don’t really talk about meditation that much in the Bible unless like you know you really I think look at
28:39 it and like interpret it a certain way um and then I’ve also even heard some
28:47 Christians like almost kind of denounce meditation I you know a lot of different
28:52 cultures so let me start by saying this meditation is not a religion mhm okay it
29:00 is a powerful healing technique and every religion in this world has
29:08 meditation they may not call that in some form or another and I wish they
29:14 would have taught us this as children right um for example I wish I would have
29:21 known this when I was a little girl my aunts used to sit around and uh repeat
29:28 the rosary right the beads and they would oh yeah repeat the prayer over and
29:34 over again yeah okay right the um Hail Mary the Our Father which is like a
29:39 mantra which is a mantra and all they did was repeat the prayer over and over
29:47 again had we been taught that the reason for that was to go within it was just
29:54 say you know the Our Father Ting times and go through it that was a form of
30:00 meditation the Buddhists with their with their Mala beads that is a form of
30:05 meditation what’s so interesting is when I was going through my
30:13 certification the Mantra that we use is um AUM that is the you know the what
30:19 they consider the sound of the universe every
30:24 culture has those three letters in Christianity when we pray we say
30:32 Amen okay the Hindus a the Muslims a
30:40 mean everyone has the same so everyone has been meditating in some way without
30:48 knowing it the Sufi they dance to connect with God you
30:55 know our indigenous people it’s through dance that they connect
31:01 that is a form of meditation yeah singing and they exactly
31:07 so I I have you know I’ve had a couple students that were that you know in um
31:14 in groups had said well you know I’m a Christian I can’t do that meditation and I would say I’m not teaching you you
31:22 know if anything this is giving you more of an anchor to whatever it is that you
31:28 believe in I’m very respectful to everyone’s beliefs um I like to go with
31:36 um with what Rumi says you know my religion is love yeah and I liked how
31:42 you compare you know you didn’t say prayer or meditation it really goes hand in hand with other it goes it really it
31:50 really goes hand in hand you know to connect with create the Creator whatever
31:57 it is that you believe in the universe something greater than you you know the
32:04 light of love the light of goodness you know and it’s ah in every also in every
32:11 scripture it says you know and in every religion ask and you shall receive yeah
32:18 you know so when we pray we ask the secret is let’s raise our vibration you
32:23 know instead of being in doubt believe and move that the energies within us and
32:30 be in a positive place so that we could receive what we’re asking for because
32:36 we’re like magnets you know if I’m saying yeah I want that but I’m way you
32:41 know down here that not coming no it’s some there waiting for us
32:48 have to work for it a little bit exactly exactly but it’s being you know asking
32:54 and then going within and calming the system because we all know too when
33:00 we’re stressed when we’re fatigued when we’re anxious the stress hormones are
33:05 released the cortisol is doing havoc in the body and that’s when disease happens
33:11 yes so if we can calm everything down including the mind I mean that is
33:18 there’s so many benefits of meditation physically emotionally mentally why not
33:25 I think my next uh this question is kind of like there’s a lot of I don’t know if you know what a
33:31 psychonaut is do you know what that is so
33:36 like do you believe that certain drugs
33:41 will put you in a meditative State no no not at all I think
33:50 that drugs really block connecting
33:58 with who you really are all the senses how can you know how can you hear you
34:06 know what you need to learn through it it it changes the chemical in your brain
34:12 you know I know that there are certain drugs for example fentanyl it will make you a psychotic right it um what a
34:20 double personality and they cannot tell the difference we were just talking about
34:25 that um where you’ll go against everything everything that you know so no not at all
34:32 meditation is such you know I’ve had a lot of students that are whoops that are going through recovery and that have
34:40 said to me I don’t need drugs if I have meditation this is taking me to another
34:45 place you know so we don’t need that you know because it does
34:52 change the human you know the brain um to a point where you don’t even
34:58 recognize them and I know this because I’ve lived it you know you both know
35:03 that my son struggled with addiction and
35:09 um and he passed uh due to an overdose of
35:14 fentanyl the brain was saying something different and he even his therapist said
35:21 I can’t even determine what’s going on for 6 months because the fentanyl has
35:27 has really damaged the brain and it’ll take that long so I I hear of now you know people
35:35 using mushrooms and on and on and on and it’s like if you only knew what you have
35:41 within you you know I know some of the indigenous have used it you know in ancient
35:47 times but they weren’t using it you know whatever they knew what they were doing
35:54 as far for the rituals that was something so so different something that I know nothing you know about um but no
36:02 I I I don’t believe that drugs can take you take you on a bad
36:09 trip yeah I think um it goes back to like being open-minded and opening your
36:15 heart and like some people aren’t willing to do that without drugs and
36:20 that’s why they think that it’s the drugs that are helping them do that but they could do that on their own with
36:26 meditation official yes it’s exactly exactly and you know
36:32 from I’ve worked with so many so many clients and
36:37 students and it touches my heart you know when
36:44 they finally open up when they when they’re finally able to connect and
36:51 remember who they truly are you know it is the most beautiful thing in the world
36:57 even it’s for that half hour you know or hour then they’re with me they get a
37:03 taste of what being at peace is you know life is never going to be easy we’re
37:10 we’re on this journey um the road is Bumpy but meditation makes this bumpy
37:17 road a little bit easier to travel more
37:23 clear when you can look at yourself and go I’ve done the you know I’m doing good
37:30 I’m okay you’re right and I I do think that um treatments and therapy like they
37:36 they do lack giving the tools it’s like okay I have anxiety but what am I going to do about it exactly
37:44 meditation tells them exactly how to do it but people will resist it they don’t
37:49 want to use the tools they don’t want to use it for for a little bit but once they start seeing you know the benefit
37:57 for them I have a student that just you know and I meant to bring you know what
38:03 they write me you know of how they feel I have a student now that is getting up
38:09 at 5: in the morning she’s in rehab right now she’s getting up at 5: to do
38:16 her personal meditation without guidance she has grown that much knowing that she
38:22 has to start her day and everything works hand in hand you know the therapy
38:30 which is amazing the meditation that allows them to open up
38:36 to the therapist because that’s another thing too and to be able to listen to
38:41 what the therapist has to say and then you add you know everything and other
38:48 holistic methods that can help with the acupuncture as well you know and the the
38:55 really knowing who they are you know connecting
39:01 with the gifts that they have because of the cloud you know and I always say that
39:07 once you start this journey the veil of Darkness begins to
39:13 fade and you see again and you hear again and you feel again
39:21 too it’s true feeling like I think that
39:26 um with meditation that’s probably the biggest benefit or would you agree with that or do you think there’s okay yes
39:33 and you know not only teaching the person that we’re working
39:41 with but if we have the opportunity I always invite family members after a
39:48 certain point if they would like to join because you know having the family
39:54 supporting and learning too you know let’s say parents a lot of times parents
40:00 do not have a manual we weren’t even given a manual when our children were born much less if they’re struggling
40:08 with mental illness or addiction so we don’t even have a manual for that so if
40:15 we all start learning opening up and becoming more of instead of enabling
40:23 others but become more of a support group for each other and with meditation
40:30 it’s really beautiful when we can do that together are there any
40:36 uh uh resources that you would recommend for for people that you know like
40:42 meditation groups I don’t know I know there’s there’s a group for just about everything now um is there anything that
40:50 you would there there’s so much online I mean you know 20 years ago you just
40:56 didn’t know what to do right but right now there’s so many different CL and
41:03 free on YouTube you know you can find different techniques I always say seek
41:09 and find what resonates with you um if you’re looking for guided meditation
41:15 there’s beautiful guided meditations online let’s say if you’re having trouble sleeping there’s sleeping
41:22 meditations there’s classes um for breathing I always recommend please
41:29 please please very gentle breaths no deep breathing um nothing like that
41:35 everything is gentle but there’s so much online that can help you uh books
41:42 beautiful books you know the books of Dr uh Joe despenser Deepak Chopra eal toi
41:50 is amazing as well Jay Shetty really goes with the younger crowd you know
41:57 that resonates there but there’s so many different um things that you could I
42:03 think there’s the apps also available so if you if you really want to learn this
42:11 there’s so much available to you out there which is so
42:18 nice so um what would you say would be like your
42:23 advice for everybody who wants to get better with you know meditation or even
42:30 just getting more rest um anything for their mental health what would be like the biggest piece of advice you would
42:37 give them absolutely rest rest is so
42:43 important for all of us when you know when the body and the mind is going you
42:49 need your rest of course you need to eat well you need to you know hydrate but
42:55 it’s also Coming to Terms you know with let me connect with who I am using the
43:03 breath if I can give one advice you can use the breath just a simple technique
43:09 is breathing in through the nose and exhaling just very very gentle if um
43:17 taking the time you can use music too there’s so many
43:23 beautiful you know music to me is the language of God that is Creator whatever
43:29 it is that you want to call it soft music to help you go within repeating a
43:36 mantra uh just I love one of my favorites is movement meditation
43:44 especially for those who believe they cannot sit still is allowing the music
43:50 gentle music without lyrics to and your eyes closed and just move allowing the
43:56 music to move you right there is a simple very simple you feel the energies
44:02 very simple uh but it’s really breathing repeating a mantra a sacred sound or
44:09 word and it’s just the repetition allow the thoughts to come through let them
44:15 don’t say I’m not going to think about this anymore if they come let them go by bring your attention back to the Mantra
44:23 and just continue repeating it over and over with without judgment without worrying am I doing this right or wrong
44:31 that’s the hardest part you’re doing you’re sitting there you’re doing that
44:36 that’s something very important to me for my students is to leave the self judgment
44:44 behind yeah leave you know that that
44:50 constant negativity about I did this wrong I did that wrong why can’t I do
44:55 this right you know leave the judgments behind when we stop judging ourselves we
45:01 stop judging others yeah right um when we’re kind to ourselves Bruce Lee years
45:08 ago said that you know be very careful of what you say and and think for the body here so be gentle you know you
45:16 could just repeat um is such a simple you know it’s the sound of creation
45:22 right and it’s used by all cultures so just s repeating to yourself
45:30 um um and you just continuously repeat it and it will be uncomfortable but you
45:36 just keep going and and watch your breath you know at night when you can’t sleep just
45:45 breathe that would be my recommendation yeah I mean that’s
45:51 amazing um it looks like we’re bad at a time but this is like something that I mean you have to go at three right yeah
45:57 yes I do but I just a question that we can just like edit we can keep this one or edit it out I’m just interested in it
46:02 what are your thoughts on um like astr projection cuz like a lot of people say like they get powers from meditation and
46:10 I just don’t know if like it sounds a little crazy to me that like oh you have like Powers now okay we all have powers
46:17 you know we we all are these amazing spiritual energetic beings I always say
46:24 that um especially when I’m teaching mudas and I’m moving energy and
46:30 I’m talking about Reiki we all are healers right we all are creative
46:38 beings when I first started on my journey to meditation I I’ll go back a
46:43 little bit um I was terrified of doggies
46:48 right they were really cute from far away real cute nice dog okay don’t don’t get like hair on me don’t spit on me
46:56 don’t do anything that and um I remembered when I was a little girl my mom used to say I was afraid of dogs I
47:03 never said that but my mom said that right so I’ve been afraid of dogs my whole life when I started teaching
47:14 meditation I realized that the clients that brought their dogs at first I was
47:20 like uhoh uhoh but I yeah uh oh what are they going to do but I started to
47:27 realize that I had changed over over the course of the years that now I had this
47:35 thing with these animals and the dogs they now recognize me the minute I
47:42 walk into a facility if they see me they go find their seat MH and they sit and I
47:50 I have pictures I’ve posted pictures of doggies just meditating with me and I’m
47:56 like this is Magic you know I have now connected so the reason really when
48:03 you’re asking about Powers we adish shankara Sage from the 8th Century said
48:10 that we were multi-dimensional beings right that there were layers of life um
48:17 which meant you know our physical body our energetic body and so forth but as
48:23 we go through the Journey of meditation we start growing our Consciousness which it took me a
48:30 year to understand what that meant it means awareness you become more aware so
48:36 before I was afraid of these animals because of something someone said to me
48:42 and now that I’ve stepped you know gone up the the the the
48:50 staircase now I realize that I have this energy with them so what’s happening
48:56 with meditation which is an excellent question is we are becoming more aware
49:05 So Others May think wow she’s powerful or she’s magical we all are we’re just
49:11 be we’re opening the consciousness of the mind you know we
49:16 live there’s seven stages steps of
49:21 Consciousness we are all living in the Sleep dream and awake state
49:27 once you start meditating you’re going up the staircase and you see more so
49:33 picture seven flights of stairs right we are all in that first stair all you could see is it’s right in front of you
49:41 as you continue to grow you go to the next floor you can see a little bit higher and a little bit higher so you
49:49 are just growing that is the magic that is the beauty you know we all have it
49:55 but we become more in tuned with each other with life
50:02 um with with everything around we see you know again so that’s so yeah I truly
50:11 believe that um it’s the growth as a human being you
50:17 know connecting with that spiritual side yeah well thank you so
50:23 much ingred you’re amazing thank you you’re amazing you’re amazing thank you it’s been
50:30 really cool it has I could I could talk about this stuff for hours yeah I’d love to come back I’d love I would love that
50:36 yeah you know because we all learn I mean I’m constantly learning from you you and I it like I said it really it
50:44 goes together it does so much because DBT has mindfulness yes we talk about being present being non-judgmental doing
50:51 one thing at a time meditation is one form of that it all goes it goes hand in
50:58 hand you know and that’s the beauty of it so thank you
